And here we stand again, like the phenomena of apogee and perigee in the revolution cycle of moon, India also faces a time when it is closest to the best behavior of the politicians, I like to call it Political Perigee and it comes every four years at the time just months before general elections.
Every single political candidate pretends to be like an angel and try to convince us he/she really is one. People find themselves in a dilemma. Now after so many trial and errors, people have understood that we dont have to choose the good candidate, but the least evil one. This is the filter which we use to gauge the worth of the prime ministerial candidate. We need to choose the candidate which will still be at his least evil behavior even at the time of Political Apogee, which by the way may span for almost their entire tenure.
Several parties with their prime ministerial candidates are charging like bulls towards the most coveted position in the Indian constituency. BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) led NDA, Congress led UPA and AAP (Aam Admi Party) are the major players this time.
But this time the genius of Election Commission has created a new player, a player belonging to no party or group, a player whose creation has been inspired by the thoughts of bestselling author “Shiv Khera”. This player poses a big threat to all others and its name is NOTA (None Of The Above). Its so hard to believe that a single button is capable of making such a big impact. It takes us back to the time of Guy Fawkes, when a single man tried to topple a giant regime. Although this time its not about “Gunpowder, treason and plot” but the impact could be as catatonic as it would have been if he would have succeeded in his plans.
NOTA is the power the countrymen needed, and it has been granted to them, a wise move by the EC indeed. It is the symbol of a great idea and incorporating it in the voting machine is a gesture of care and concern.Although, who will win the elections and be seated on the most revered seat of India still needs to be seen, but one thing is for sure, if ideas like these keep coming up and been applied then that day isnt far away when it will become almost impossible for the winner of general elections to be stationed at the Apogee at all.
